As soon as I see the DOS newsletter in my inbox I click the heart. Then I eagerly read the whole thing and when I get to the end I'm vexed because I want to click the heart again but it's already clicked. Substack could help me out here by providing a multi-click heart option. ❤️ 💙 💜
OK, head exploding over the chip and dip salad. As someone who still serves Lipton onion dip with Cape Cod chips at every gathering (unabashedly) and watches it disappear I cannot wait to try this. Chip chip hooray!
4th anniversary AND you acknowledge the cookie salad!? Fun fact: my boyfriend's mom always specifies if she's making a "lettuce salad" with a meal, because just saying "salad" means Cool Whip, pudding, and maraschino cherries are involved. Why yes, we are from the Midwest, how could you tell? Happiest of anniversaries, and here's to many more!
Erin, thank you so much! And I absolutely love your boyfriend's mom--my aunt's recipe box didn't was full of jello salads. I just love going through those recipes. ❤️
Happy Anniversary! 🥬🌱 This is an absolute bonanza of an issue… I hereby grant you three weeks off so I have time to digest its contents. (Not literally digest: just figuratively.) So much saladacious goodness! Thanks, Emily. 💚
I have loved the DOS from the beginning! What a great anniversary issue! Thanks for all the tasty salads and dressings you have shared with us...I make your cherry salad at least once a quarter! Looking forward to what's ahead! Thanks so much!
Another set of salads to try. I am at the moment hooked on the 'tartar sauce' dressing, but the vegan caesar may wedge itself into the current dressing rotation.
I love the tartar sauce dressing, too, but I"m going to INSIST that you try the vegan Caesar--I am making it for myself AGAIN for dinner tomorrow night. I can't get enough of it. Thank you so much for reading the Department of Salad, Mary! ❤️
I am always glad to see your newsletter in my inbox when it comes. I eat salad 3 meals a day if I can (the family sometimes objects to salad for dinner in the dead of winter, but there is always warm toast to be had...)
I am going to make the kale salad tomorrow night, despite the looming threat of winter here in Colorado. There is an abundance of locally grown kale still available, and we must do our part to keep it from going to waste!
I love Julia's new book. Purchased even tho I SWORE no new cookbooks. Also not really salad adjacent but currently eating her granola recipe from the Revolutionary cookbook. Will come back and post real title
Happy anniversary and thank you for sharing all 🥗🥒🥬🍅 with us (and Cookie). I am indulging in (practicing avoidance with) cooking and travel reading for the next week or so (my 🗳️ is in and I know the assignment)
congrats!! Also where can I find the recipe for the vegan kale cesar salad that was in this bulletin?? did I miss something?? I am vegan and grow a ton of kale, so would love this!!
Oh, well I am so HONORED to be the person to introduce you to the March Hare, which is one of my all time favorite salads. You are in for a treat! Thank you for reading the Department of Salad, Susan!
So much (delicious) fun! And I was lucky enough to have worked for a while with Julia's mother, Rochelle, of whom Julia appears to be a... clone (physically, at least). xo
Congratulations Emily! You deserve every bit of the green stuff! 🥗🥒🥬🥦🍆🥑🥕🫒
Francine! xoxoxo

I am so glad, Jamie! Is there ANYTHING BETTER than onion dip? NO! Hahahah!

Congratulations! And thanks for the reminder of how much I like fresh chives and whole milk cottage cheese.
Thank YOU, Maud--and yes, wow, and what a good combination together! I hope you're going to make the March Hare!
"Just call it rustic and you'll be fine...." 🤣🤣🤣
2 faves together - Dept of Salad AND Turshen 💕
Then bonus Molly Katzen 🎯
What a great post!
Yay!! I"m so glad--two of my faves as well. It would be hard to go wrong, wouldn't it?? Thank you for being here!

Btw I found the recipe by scrolling down in the issue!
Oh, good!
Hi, Anna, yes it's in this issue. I'm a little confused.
This is truly a celebratory issue!! Thank you for 4 years of your generous salad fun and delightful writing! 💚🍃💚🌱
Thanks Vicki!
I loved the Mollie Katzen interview. I own 4 of her cookbooks, but never saw the White Hare salad recipe. Thanks for sharing it

Freaking out! Love it!
XOXOXO JOLENE!
I saw my first chickpea ever in a Pizza Hut salad bar circa 1970--thank you for that memory!
Those were the days! I went into the Pizza Hut in my hometown recently, and the salad bar is a very sad thing now. TRAGIC!
So much (delicious) fun! And I was lucky enough to have worked for a while with Julia's mother, Rochelle, of whom Julia appears to be a... clone (physically, at least). xo
Thanks, Valerie! --Don't you just love that Julia's parents are such a big part of the book? xoxoxo
