I’m sure Pumpkin Spice understands, Emily. This post is a wow! The soup, the dressing the colors! Better than pumpkin spice (shh 🤫 don’t tell them I said that)
As do your corn muffins. It just so happens I made a pot of veggie beef soup this morning (we’re supposed to have fall temps this week) that is calling out for cornbread.
Can’t wait to try the orange basil vinaigrette: our basil plants weathered an onslaught, really a plague, of grasshoppers only to emerge as powerful, stumpy bountiful shrubs. Lots of basil with which to experiment!
I live in the Pumpkin Capital of the world, or so the village proclaims, so feel this soup calling to me. It looks delicious with the yummy muffins to complement!
My goodness, I have been a DOS subscriber for awhile now and am now just learning you have a memoir?? I must have been so hungry for the recipes that I missed this. I’ve just placed a hold at my library!
The dressing is fabulous! Silky and complex. I had to use some lime as I was short on orange but still amazing. I couldn’t wait over night but there is loads left and cannot imagine it getting better!

I can't wait to try that soup with the muffins, maybe that vinaigrette on some greens on the side? Sounds perfect!
♥️ ♥️♥️♥️
Salivating…. I am dreaming of that soup and those muffins on a cold fall night, sure to come soon here in Northern New Mexico

I made the orange basil dressing tonight and am very patiently waiting for the recommended betrothal before trying it.
Haha! ❤️

Thank you, Lydia! And thank you for reading the Department of Salad!
Your liquid salad sounds good.

Those muffins really are a treat--they are a little richer than your average cornbread/muffins, but you don't HAVE to butter them.

I hope you like it, Mary--I have never had great luck growing basil. I'm very jealous.
Those muffins! What a perfect accompaniment!
