I lived in Asheville for over 16 years, and it was my favorite place in the world. I am so sad over the devastation that the region has sustained and that continues to evolve. Yes, please, Emily, I need comfort foods for so many reasons lately even as I sit with my gratitude that I have dodged a bullet this time while so many have not.
Emily, take all the time you and yours need. I have pals in Asheville who are OK, but so many aren't---whole towns erased, infrastructures in shambles. A long row to hoe ahead.
I am glad that you and yours are Ok. It is heartbreaking, seeing what has happened. I love those mountains, hiked in them, camped in them, went to college in Swannanoa, N.C. and love WNC and all the Appalachians. Those mountains are a part of me and it hurts so much to see the destruction of Helene. I was born in Fla. too, and my sister lives there. They lost power for a few hours but are Ok. I hope everyone is!
